Get involved

There are a number of ways you can get involved with Our Response.  Certainly providing financial resources is the a primary objective, but to make that happen we also need individuals to donate their time and talents.  There is a lot of work to be done, and if you feel you would like to be involved, please don’t hesitate to give us a shout.  Here are the major areas of support needed.

Child Sponsorship:  World Vision has been facilitating child sponsorship for more than 50 years.  Our Response has partnered with WV to increase the sponsorships in Kivuruga, Rwanda. Children to be sponsored are carefully selected by World Vision staff with a portion of the funding directed to the specific child and the remainder allocated to the community.  The standard sponsorship of $35 a month for a HopeChild provides many things such as clean water, nutritious food, health care (including AIDS Prevention), care for sick or dying parents, educational opportunities, spiritual nurture, and HIV/AIDS Counseling.  Child sponsorships are tax-deductible.  More info can be found on the “Sponsor” page of this website (click here for link): https://ourresponse.wordpress.com/child-sponsorship/

Cash donations (one-time or ongoing): All administrative expenses have been covered by an individual donation.  Therefore, any cash contributions made to Our Response will be allocated based on current needs which may include: 1) trips to/from Rwanda, 2) special community projects, or 3) pooled for additional child sponsorships.  All cash gifts to Our Response are tax-deductible and can be sent to:

Asset donations: Our Response can provide tax deductions for donations of other assets such as stocks, bonds, vehicles, or nearly any other asset of value.  Please contact your tax advisor for specifics on the implications of such a donation.

Donation of time, skills, and/or supplies.  Our Response is fully run on a volunteer basis with no employees; further, the team works hard to keep expenses to a minimum.  Therefore, Our Response is looking for volunteers in many areas from website design/maintenance, researching specific issues, administrative help, event planning, and communication.

Pray.  Our Response aims to unite all residents, regardless of faith perspective, in responding to the emergency in Africa.  If your spiritual beliefs include prayer, we welcome you to pray on behalf of this effort.  In fact, we are looking to formalize a prayer team – if that is an interest of yours, please let us know.
